Narrative:
I was hurrying home after learning of the impending death of a family member. I was stopping for fuel at the big bear, ca, airport where I had the day prior on my outbound leg. I allowed myself to be distraction by my personal crisis and make an approach to the wrong runway. This resulted in a near miss situation with a departing baron while I was on final approach. Fortunately, I saw him on his initial climb and was able to avoid him and make a downwind entry to the correct runway. I do not believe the other aircraft saw me. This incident for me, however, has driven home the need for constant vigilance during flight, and the need to set aside personal issues when flying.
