Narrative:
Used pneumatic cart for start because APU bleed was placarded. Ground man advised we were 'clear to start' and after starting engine #1, I advised he was 'clear to disconnect air.' I did not hear from him for some time so I inquired if he was ready. He replied, 'we are just closing up, you are cleared to push.' I advised 'parking brake released' and as I released the brake the aircraft moved backward. He immediately said 'do not release the brake.' I applied brakes, et the parking brake and announced 'parking brake parked.' a few moments later he advised 'release parking brake' and immediately the tractor pushed the aircraft resulting in the tow bar breaking. We shut down the engine and called maintenance. They inspected the nose gear and found that a wiring harness was damaged and the aircraft was taken OTS.

Title: AN A300 IS DAMAGED AND TAKEN OTS AFTER THE TOW BAR IMPACTED UPON IT DURING AN ATTEMPTED PUSHBACK WHILE THE PARKING BRAKE WAS STILL SET AT JFK, NY.
Narrative: USED PNEUMATIC CART FOR START BECAUSE APU BLEED WAS PLACARDED. GND MAN ADVISED WE WERE 'CLR TO START' AND AFTER STARTING ENG #1, I ADVISED HE WAS 'CLR TO DISCONNECT AIR.' I DID NOT HEAR FROM HIM FOR SOME TIME SO I INQUIRED IF HE WAS READY. HE REPLIED, 'WE ARE JUST CLOSING UP, YOU ARE CLRED TO PUSH.' I ADVISED 'PARKING BRAKE RELEASED' AND AS I RELEASED THE BRAKE THE ACFT MOVED BACKWARD. HE IMMEDIATELY SAID 'DO NOT RELEASE THE BRAKE.' I APPLIED BRAKES, ET THE PARKING BRAKE AND ANNOUNCED 'PARKING BRAKE PARKED.' A FEW MOMENTS LATER HE ADVISED 'RELEASE PARKING BRAKE' AND IMMEDIATELY THE TRACTOR PUSHED THE ACFT RESULTING IN THE TOW BAR BREAKING. WE SHUT DOWN THE ENG AND CALLED MAINT. THEY INSPECTED THE NOSE GEAR AND FOUND THAT A WIRING HARNESS WAS DAMAGED AND THE ACFT WAS TAKEN OTS.
