Narrative:
Took control of aircraft from first officer after landing. Clearing off landing runway and still between runways, first officer switched radio frequencys and advised ground we were clear of landing runway and holding short of parallel runway. I immediately told first officer to return to tower frequency because we were still between runways. Ground control and tower asked why we had switched frequencys prematurely. I believe the first officer may have been feeling anxious/rushed about the busyness of situation and switched frequency too soon. He also may have forgotten we were still between 2 active runways when he switched to ground control. Have got to slow down and think about where you are and what part of flight we are still in.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR FO SWITCHES TO GND CTL FREQ PREMATURELY WHILE BTWN THE 2 ACTIVE RWYS AT LAX, CA.
Narrative: TOOK CTL OF ACFT FROM FO AFTER LNDG. CLRING OFF LNDG RWY AND STILL BTWN RWYS, FO SWITCHED RADIO FREQS AND ADVISED GND WE WERE CLR OF LNDG RWY AND HOLDING SHORT OF PARALLEL RWY. I IMMEDIATELY TOLD FO TO RETURN TO TWR FREQ BECAUSE WE WERE STILL BTWN RWYS. GND CTL AND TWR ASKED WHY WE HAD SWITCHED FREQS PREMATURELY. I BELIEVE THE FO MAY HAVE BEEN FEELING ANXIOUS/RUSHED ABOUT THE BUSYNESS OF SIT AND SWITCHED FREQ TOO SOON. HE ALSO MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN WE WERE STILL BTWN 2 ACTIVE RWYS WHEN HE SWITCHED TO GND CTL. HAVE GOT TO SLOW DOWN AND THINK ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE AND WHAT PART OF FLT WE ARE STILL IN.
