Narrative:
Ground control on 121.8 instructed us to taxi via taxiway K, taxiway eg, and monitor ground 121.65. Instead of monitoring ground 121.65, prematurely switched to tower 126.55. After noticing this, switched back to 121.65 and asked if they had tried to call. They responded 'no, however, follow aircraft in front and switch to tower.' no conflicts. Concerned because tower and ground frequencys are similar.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DC9-30 FO SWITCHED TO THE E TWR FREQ PREMATURELY WHEN ASKED TO MONITOR ANOTHER E GND CTL FREQ AT DFW, TX.
Narrative: GND CTL ON 121.8 INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI VIA TXWY K, TXWY EG, AND MONITOR GND 121.65. INSTEAD OF MONITORING GND 121.65, PREMATURELY SWITCHED TO TWR 126.55. AFTER NOTICING THIS, SWITCHED BACK TO 121.65 AND ASKED IF THEY HAD TRIED TO CALL. THEY RESPONDED 'NO, HOWEVER, FOLLOW ACFT IN FRONT AND SWITCH TO TWR.' NO CONFLICTS. CONCERNED BECAUSE TWR AND GND FREQS ARE SIMILAR.
