Narrative:

Entering downwind to runway 24R at lax the emergency bus off light illuminated on overhead panel, electrical on map illuminated, and caution light was flashing. I noted the loss of many indications and immediately consulted the QRH. Ran emergency bus off light checklist, consulted afm 3-9, and determined loss of emergency dc bus #2. Needed more time to go over items and rerun QRH. Then took aircraft and had first officer run QRH. We elected to go around during these proceeding to take the time to run checks. Having not declared an emergency at this time, we got back in line to land at lax. WX was a high overcast good visibility. On ILS gear would not come down via gear handle. Asked to go around and head over pacific ocean to hold and work on gear problem. Called maintenance control via atlanta radio for extra help. Gear did not come down because of electrical loss, and we used electrical override switch with the QRH as our guide. Gear came down and we had 3 green lights. I elected to ask for emergency vehicles because of using an abnormal procedure to lower landing gear. Landed uneventfully. Passenger briefed honestly 4 times. 1) electrical problem, 2) problem ok, 3) gear problem, and 4) gear problem fixed.
