Narrative:
Normal takeoff. Everything was set -- radios, vors, lights, etc. Was climb out out of lunken field. Control tower airspace requested frequency change. They said not receiving transponder, so I recycled it and it did nothing. They told me frequency change approved. Changed to another frequency. Everything started flashing, popping and clicking. Recycled alternator twice -- no response. I shut down all electric except 1 radio and battery switch. Called lunken -- no response. Made several attempts -- no response. Heard more noises. Could not smell any smoke nor see any fire, but was afraid that there might be a fire. Immediately, I turned toward the runways, looked for traffic, and landed, shut down by firehouse.
