Narrative:
While flying with a new first officer, I had to brief, as well as watch him closely on taxi-in and gate procedures at lax. I understood that he'd contacted ground control after clearing the runway and asked him to contact ramp control. He tuned the wrong ramp frequency. I was monitoring his progress and retuning his radio when lax ground control contacted us by requesting our flight number by position. We establish contact with ground control halfway to the gate and finally with ramp control. 2 pilot flight decks get busy when 1 pilot has a fairly steep learning curve. With 1 pilot trying to do his job as well as monitor another, both position can suffer degrading the entire operation. Best solution is to slow down or stop until both pilots are caught up.

Title: FLC OF A B737-400 FAILED TO CONTACT LAX GND CTL PRIOR TO TAXI IN FOR PARKING. GND CTLR ESTABLISHED COM WITH THE RPTR HALF WAY TO PARKING.
Narrative: WHILE FLYING WITH A NEW FO, I HAD TO BRIEF, AS WELL AS WATCH HIM CLOSELY ON TAXI-IN AND GATE PROCS AT LAX. WITH 1 PLT TRYING TO DO HIS JOB AS WELL AS MONITOR ANOTHER, BOTH POS CAN SUFFER DEGRADING THE ENTIRE OP. BEST SOLUTION IS TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP UNTIL BOTH PLTS ARE CAUGHT UP.
