Narrative:
During visual runway 18R approach, clt approach control kept us high and fast on base leg. Turning final at FAF, we were still high. Several unanswered calls to tower were made requesting an s-turn to west in order to get down. On my own, I finally made an s-turn on final to the west. This collapsed spacing behind us and the aircraft following us was directed to go around by tower. We continued to a stabilized uneventful landing on runway 18R. Tower issued no comment and appeared busy with other traffic. Both approach and tower were busy on radio frequencys. Their instructions keep us high and fast.
