Narrative:
We were doing a touch-and-go at kent state airport using runway 1. We made our radio call for crosswind at around 1600 ft MSL. Just under 2000 ft MSL, we made a radio call for downwind and turned. At almost mid point of the runway, we noticed another aircraft coming into downwind at a 45 degree angle. No radio calls were heard from the other aircraft. At this time we aborted and made a sharp bank to the left. Supplemental information from acn 478478: while entering the traffic pattern for 1g3, all appropriate position calls were made over the radio. Apparently my radio had been accidentally turned off. I received no radio xmissions from any other aircraft in the pattern. I did not see any aircraft on downwind. I called and turned onto downwind for runway 10 when I spotted a C152 off my left wing. Both aircraft saw and avoided each other. I proceeded on to land when the C152 circled around to re-enter the downwind. I felt this was the best choice to avoid a recurrence.

Title: 2 LOW TIME PLTS HAVE AN NMAC IN AN UNCTLED TFC PATTERN. ONE ACFT IS FOUND TO HAVE RADIO OFF PREVENTING CTAF PROC EFFECTIVENESS.
Narrative: WE WERE DOING A TOUCH-AND-GO AT KENT STATE ARPT USING RWY 1. WE MADE OUR RADIO CALL FOR XWIND AT AROUND 1600 FT MSL. JUST UNDER 2000 FT MSL, WE MADE A RADIO CALL FOR DOWNWIND AND TURNED. AT ALMOST MID POINT OF THE RWY, WE NOTICED ANOTHER ACFT COMING INTO DOWNWIND AT A 45 DEG ANGLE. NO RADIO CALLS WERE HEARD FROM THE OTHER ACFT. AT THIS TIME WE ABORTED AND MADE A SHARP BANK TO THE L. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 478478: WHILE ENTERING THE TFC PATTERN FOR 1G3, ALL APPROPRIATE POS CALLS WERE MADE OVER THE RADIO. APPARENTLY MY RADIO HAD BEEN ACCIDENTALLY TURNED OFF. I RECEIVED NO RADIO XMISSIONS FROM ANY OTHER ACFT IN THE PATTERN. I DID NOT SEE ANY ACFT ON DOWNWIND. I CALLED AND TURNED ONTO DOWNWIND FOR RWY 10 WHEN I SPOTTED A C152 OFF MY L WING. BOTH ACFT SAW AND AVOIDED EACH OTHER. I PROCEEDED ON TO LAND WHEN THE C152 CIRCLED AROUND TO RE-ENTER THE DOWNWIND. I FELT THIS WAS THE BEST CHOICE TO AVOID A RECURRENCE.
