Narrative:
The final steps of the engine trim procedure leaves the part-power-stop (pps) in the stowed position in accordance with the maintenance manual. Our work cards chronologically follow the maintenance manual and then call for the removal of equipment as does the maintenance manual. The next step is to safety the part-power-stop in the standard day position, then close up the engine. This is a wrong statement which will prevent the aircraft from reaching full takeoff power. By following these procedures the aircraft was in revenue service and had to abort takeoff. The problem was immediately idented and corrected without any further incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DC9-30 REJECTED TKOF DUE TO UNABLE TO MAKE TKOF PWR ON #2 ENG DUE TO JOB CARD PROC ERROR.
Narrative: THE FINAL STEPS OF THE ENG TRIM PROC LEAVES THE PART-PWR-STOP (PPS) IN THE STOWED POS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MAINT MANUAL. OUR WORK CARDS CHRONOLOGICALLY FOLLOW THE MAINT MANUAL AND THEN CALL FOR THE REMOVAL OF EQUIP AS DOES THE MAINT MANUAL. THE NEXT STEP IS TO SAFETY THE PART-PWR-STOP IN THE STANDARD DAY POS, THEN CLOSE UP THE ENG. THIS IS A WRONG STATEMENT WHICH WILL PREVENT THE ACFT FROM REACHING FULL TKOF PWR. BY FOLLOWING THESE PROCS THE ACFT WAS IN REVENUE SVC AND HAD TO ABORT TKOF. THE PROB WAS IMMEDIATELY IDENTED AND CORRECTED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER INCIDENT.
