Narrative:
At 15 mi wnw, engine began running rough and was showing obvious mechanical problems. After the use of proper checklist, was unable to solve problems, I decided to glide into sheridan airport instead of buffalo (destination). I called on the proper frequency 8 mi out and obtained proper response from the fire fighter department at the sheridan airport. I was 2 mi out on base for runway 14. I made the proper calls, declaring an emergency. A beech 1900B asked if they had time to 'blast off' before I could get in. To which I answered 'I don't know I have a lot of altitude to lose.' (I was very busy.) they got on the runway, they saw that I was on short final with true problems. Then they decided to get off the runway. They were apologetic upon my clearing the runway. Hopefully, they will remember next time that per FARS that emergency landing traffic always has priority over anyone else -- even when it's a rushing commuter.

Title: A PA28-140 PVT PLT HAS A POTENTIAL GND CONFLICT WITH A COMMUTER BE1900 WHICH HAD TAKEN POS ON THE LNDG RWY AFTER AN EMER HAD BEEN DECLARED AT THE NON TWR ARPT AT SHR, WY.
Narrative: AT 15 MI WNW, ENG BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH AND WAS SHOWING OBVIOUS MECHANICAL PROBS. AFTER THE USE OF PROPER CHKLIST, WAS UNABLE TO SOLVE PROBS, I DECIDED TO GLIDE INTO SHERIDAN ARPT INSTEAD OF BUFFALO (DEST). I CALLED ON THE PROPER FREQ 8 MI OUT AND OBTAINED PROPER RESPONSE FROM THE FIRE FIGHTER DEPT AT THE SHERIDAN ARPT. I WAS 2 MI OUT ON BASE FOR RWY 14. I MADE THE PROPER CALLS, DECLARING AN EMER. A BEECH 1900B ASKED IF THEY HAD TIME TO 'BLAST OFF' BEFORE I COULD GET IN. TO WHICH I ANSWERED 'I DON'T KNOW I HAVE A LOT OF ALT TO LOSE.' (I WAS VERY BUSY.) THEY GOT ON THE RWY, THEY SAW THAT I WAS ON SHORT FINAL WITH TRUE PROBS. THEN THEY DECIDED TO GET OFF THE RWY. THEY WERE APOLOGETIC UPON MY CLRING THE RWY. HOPEFULLY, THEY WILL REMEMBER NEXT TIME THAT PER FARS THAT EMER LNDG TFC ALWAYS HAS PRIORITY OVER ANYONE ELSE -- EVEN WHEN IT'S A RUSHING COMMUTER.
