Narrative:
Upon leaving from salisbury, nc, I discovered a bad right magneto, so I turned around and had it checked at the FBO. It was bad, so another one was ordered. After installation, we departed in the morning 2 days later. When we were outside columbia, sc, on an approach at about 2600 ft, the aircraft quit. I didn't have any power. Approach told me there was an airport 13 mi. I told him I couldn't make and was putting it down. We landed in a hay field. The FAA determined that the right magneto was completely dead. The mechanics put a new coil in the right and points and condenser in the left. After reinstallation, the right was still dead. So they then put in points and condenser. They finally got it to run properly. I took off out of the same hay field after emptying everything out of the plane. There was no damage to the plane or injury to the personnel.
