Narrative:
Corporately owned/operated giv began descent into awk. Autothrottles disengaged due to split in engine power. Subsequently unable to reduce engine power on left engine below 85% power. Destination was pwk 100 ft by 5000 ft runway. Diverted to ord. Engine stuck at 85%, power would not reduce. Advised ATC of 'expeditious handling' to ord due to engine malfunction. Because of abnormally high power setting, unable to slow the aircraft enough to configure the aircraft for landing or land. Therefore, had to shut down left engine. Made approach and landing at ord, which were uneventful. Thanks to ATC expeditious handling of our situation, an 'emergency' was not declared, but we (crew) made it clear we had a problem and that we needed no delay to the field. ATC did an outstanding job. Upon inspection by maintenance personnel, suspect faulty fuel control unit on left engine.

Title: GLF4 CREW WAS UNABLE TO CTL #1 ENG IN ZAU CLASS A AIRSPACE.
Narrative: CORPORATELY OWNED/OPERATED GIV BEGAN DSCNT INTO AWK. AUTOTHROTTLES DISENGAGED DUE TO SPLIT IN ENG PWR. SUBSEQUENTLY UNABLE TO REDUCE ENG PWR ON L ENG BELOW 85% PWR. DEST WAS PWK 100 FT BY 5000 FT RWY. DIVERTED TO ORD. ENG STUCK AT 85%, PWR WOULD NOT REDUCE. ADVISED ATC OF 'EXPEDITIOUS HANDLING' TO ORD DUE TO ENG MALFUNCTION. BECAUSE OF ABNORMALLY HIGH PWR SETTING, UNABLE TO SLOW THE ACFT ENOUGH TO CONFIGURE THE ACFT FOR LNDG OR LAND. THEREFORE, HAD TO SHUT DOWN L ENG. MADE APCH AND LNDG AT ORD, WHICH WERE UNEVENTFUL. THANKS TO ATC EXPEDITIOUS HANDLING OF OUR SIT, AN 'EMER' WAS NOT DECLARED, BUT WE (CREW) MADE IT CLR WE HAD A PROB AND THAT WE NEEDED NO DELAY TO THE FIELD. ATC DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. UPON INSPECTION BY MAINT PERSONNEL, SUSPECT FAULTY FUEL CTL UNIT ON L ENG.
