Narrative:
While on a vector to intercept V214 northeast of iad, a momentary altitude deviation occurred while leveling at 9000 ft MSL. An '8000 ft for 9000 ft' call was given by the PNF and acknowledged by the PF. Momentary distraction caused an overshoot to 9400 ft MSL and a correction deviation to 8700 ft MSL prior to leveling at 9000 ft MSL. Departure control questioned our altimeter setting and mode C readout. No further events occurred. A contributing factor may have been that this was the 6TH leg of a 6 leg day beginning almost 12 hours earlier. Lesson learned by both pilots. Supplemental information from acn 481496: in climb with light aircraft and rapid climb at 250 KIAS, momentary distraction -- overshot 9000 ft to 9400 ft. Probably tired at XY00 and last leg.

Title: A B737-200 FLC OVERSHOOTS THEIR ASSIGNED ALT WHEN THE CAPT FAILS TO SLOW THE LIGHT ACFT'S RATE OF CLB APCHING 9000 FT 30 MI NE OF IAD, VA.
Narrative: WHILE ON A VECTOR TO INTERCEPT V214 NE OF IAD, A MOMENTARY ALTDEV OCCURRED WHILE LEVELING AT 9000 FT MSL. AN '8000 FT FOR 9000 FT' CALL WAS GIVEN BY THE PNF AND ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE PF. NO FURTHER EVENTS OCCURRED. A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR MAY HAVE BEEN THAT THIS WAS THE 6TH LEG OF A 6 LEG DAY BEGINNING ALMOST 12 HRS EARLIER. LESSON LEARNED BY BOTH PLTS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 481496: IN CLB WITH LIGHT ACFT AND RAPID CLB AT 250 KIAS, MOMENTARY DISTR -- OVERSHOT 9000 FT TO 9400 FT. PROBABLY TIRED AT XY00 AND LAST LEG.
