Narrative:
While avoiding thunderstorms and extensive restr areas surrounding hood army base in texas, I and my student inadvertently landed at a military operated airfield rather than the public airport. Killeen municipal, which sits approximately 2 mi to the southeast of the military airport was my intended destination. Being new to the area and being rushed by thunderstorms led me to inadvertently land at the hood airport which at the time I thought was killeen municipal. No action was taken by the base operators as we were extremely cooperative. This problem could have been avoided if I had set the localizer frequency in and flew the localizer back-course. Also, flight following could have helped.
