Narrative:

Airport D73. The wind was favoring lndgs on runway 3 and blowing about 4-5 KTS. I had been towing gliders since XA10 using runway 3. Some of the gliders and a parachute jump plane occasionally had used runway 21 for convenience. An A36 bonanza called 5 mi out for landing on runway 21. The jump plane called closer and the A36 said he would 'circle around out of the way for a few mins.' I called 4 mi east descending to the airport. The jump plane landed and the A36 said he was re-entering the pattern for runway 21. I then called 2000 ft over the airport to enter the pattern for runway 3. The A36 asked my exact position and I told him I was 2000 ft. He then said he was also 2000 ft and over the airport. I stopped descent and realized I was AGL and he was probably MSL. I then saw him about 400 ft below me and 100 ft off my right wing, opposite direction. He wanted to use the downwind runway because of the displaced threshold and trees on the active runway.

Title: NMAC BTWN A PIPER PAWNEE DSNDING OVER AN UNCTLED ARPT AND A BEECH 36 CIRCLING OVER THE ARPT WAITING TO LAND.

Narrative: ARPT D73. THE WIND WAS FAVORING LNDGS ON RWY 3 AND BLOWING ABOUT 4-5 KTS. I HAD BEEN TOWING GLIDERS SINCE XA10 USING RWY 3. SOME OF THE GLIDERS AND A PARACHUTE JUMP PLANE OCCASIONALLY HAD USED RWY 21 FOR CONVENIENCE. AN A36 BONANZA CALLED 5 MI OUT FOR LNDG ON RWY 21. THE JUMP PLANE CALLED CLOSER AND THE A36 SAID HE WOULD 'CIRCLE AROUND OUT OF THE WAY FOR A FEW MINS.' I CALLED 4 MI E DSNDING TO THE ARPT. THE JUMP PLANE LANDED AND THE A36 SAID HE WAS RE-ENTERING THE PATTERN FOR RWY 21. I THEN CALLED 2000 FT OVER THE ARPT TO ENTER THE PATTERN FOR RWY 3. THE A36 ASKED MY EXACT POS AND I TOLD HIM I WAS 2000 FT. HE THEN SAID HE WAS ALSO 2000 FT AND OVER THE ARPT. I STOPPED DSCNT AND REALIZED I WAS AGL AND HE WAS PROBABLY MSL. I THEN SAW HIM ABOUT 400 FT BELOW ME AND 100 FT OFF MY R WING, OPPOSITE DIRECTION. HE WANTED TO USE THE DOWNWIND RWY BECAUSE OF THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD AND TREES ON THE ACTIVE RWY.
