Narrative:

Upon receiving an ATIS report of a 1200 ft ceiling and 4 mi visibility and a report from FSS that ceilings steadily climbed to 3800 ft heading towards mop, I accepted a VFR clearance to take off on fnt runway 27 to mop. Immediately upon climb out, (at roughly 500 ft AGL) I entered clouds. I contacted fnt approach to attempt to get an instrument clearance, but determined I did not have the equipment (avionics) necessary to safely make the trip. Fnt approach provided vectors to get me over the airport and safely on the ground. My judgement was at fault but was slightly affected by the misinfo I received.

Title: C152 PLT DEPARTS ON A VFR FLT PLAN IN MARGINAL CONDITIONS TO FIND HIMSELF IN IFR CONDITIONS IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF.

Narrative: UPON RECEIVING AN ATIS RPT OF A 1200 FT CEILING AND 4 MI VISIBILITY AND A RPT FROM FSS THAT CEILINGS STEADILY CLBED TO 3800 FT HEADING TOWARDS MOP, I ACCEPTED A VFR CLRNC TO TAKE OFF ON FNT RWY 27 TO MOP. IMMEDIATELY UPON CLBOUT, (AT ROUGHLY 500 FT AGL) I ENTERED CLOUDS. I CONTACTED FNT APCH TO ATTEMPT TO GET AN INST CLRNC, BUT DETERMINED I DID NOT HAVE THE EQUIP (AVIONICS) NECESSARY TO SAFELY MAKE THE TRIP. FNT APCH PROVIDED VECTORS TO GET ME OVER THE ARPT AND SAFELY ON THE GND. MY JUDGEMENT WAS AT FAULT BUT WAS SLIGHTLY AFFECTED BY THE MISINFO I RECEIVED.
