Narrative:

We were on a visual to runway 17C at about 2500 ft when an L1011 overshot the west side and lined up in front of us at an estimated 300-500 ft in front of us and slightly below. We simultaneously received a TCASII alert. Copilot was PF and captain called for a go around. We went around straight ahead and informed tower. L1011 broke it off and went back to the west side. Lessons learned: always be sure you are lined up for the correct runway and all the needles line up. We made an uneventful landing after the go around. Supplemental information from acn 484840: use all available navaids. Be prepared and always expect the unexpected.
