Narrative:
When taxiing after landing at cvg we were instructed to 'taxi via taxiway J and contact ramp.' when we contacted ramp at J5 we were asked to 'continue on taxiway J and enter at spot X' and to 'give ground a courtesy call.' I fell for this and found that the ground controller was upset because we had followed the ramp controller's instructions -- when taxiway J belonged to ground control. There was no conflict with any other traffic, but the ground controller did not like ramp control trying to control traffic on his txwys. Supplemental information from acn 484730: we were inbound from the landing runway 18L, and were told by east ground control (121.3) to taxi taxiway T, taxiway J taxiway J5 to company ramp. At taxiway J5, we turned into the ramp and contacted ramp control (122.82). We were told 'tell you what, enter spot X, and give ground a courtesy call, if able.' we turned back onto taxiway J, switched back to east ground control (121.3), and due to frequency saturation, realized we should be on west ground control (121.7), which I switched to immediately. Ground controller informed us that we should not have moved without his permission, as the txwys belong to him, not company ramp control. Use of the words 'courtesy call' by company ramp control led us to believe the movement had been coordinated, which it had not.

Title: A CL65 PIC IS TAKEN TO TASK FOR CONTINUING TO TAXI ON TXWY J AFTER RAMP CTL ADVISES A TAXI TO SPOT X OFF TXWY J TO THE RAMP AT CVG.
Narrative: WHEN TAXIING AFTER LNDG AT CVG WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO 'TAXI VIA TXWY J AND CONTACT RAMP.' WHEN WE CONTACTED RAMP AT J5 WE WERE ASKED TO 'CONTINUE ON TXWY J AND ENTER AT SPOT X' AND TO 'GIVE GND A COURTESY CALL.' I FELL FOR THIS AND FOUND THAT THE GND CTLR WAS UPSET BECAUSE WE HAD FOLLOWED THE RAMP CTLR'S INSTRUCTIONS -- WHEN TXWY J BELONGED TO GND CTL. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH ANY OTHER TFC, BUT THE GND CTLR DID NOT LIKE RAMP CTL TRYING TO CTL TFC ON HIS TXWYS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 484730: WE WERE INBOUND FROM THE LNDG RWY 18L, AND WERE TOLD BY E GND CTL (121.3) TO TAXI TXWY T, TXWY J TXWY J5 TO COMPANY RAMP. AT TXWY J5, WE TURNED INTO THE RAMP AND CONTACTED RAMP CTL (122.82). WE WERE TOLD 'TELL YOU WHAT, ENTER SPOT X, AND GIVE GND A COURTESY CALL, IF ABLE.' WE TURNED BACK ONTO TXWY J, SWITCHED BACK TO E GND CTL (121.3), AND DUE TO FREQ SATURATION, REALIZED WE SHOULD BE ON W GND CTL (121.7), WHICH I SWITCHED TO IMMEDIATELY. GND CTLR INFORMED US THAT WE SHOULD NOT HAVE MOVED WITHOUT HIS PERMISSION, AS THE TXWYS BELONG TO HIM, NOT COMPANY RAMP CTL. USE OF THE WORDS 'COURTESY CALL' BY COMPANY RAMP CTL LED US TO BELIEVE THE MOVEMENT HAD BEEN COORDINATED, WHICH IT HAD NOT.
