Narrative:
On arrival route into santa ana (sna) we were given a crossing restr. We set up the FMS and used the VNAV. During the descent the controller asked if we were going to make the crossing restr. We said we could make it. Later in the descent we saw that we could not meet the crossing restr using the FMS and autoplt and switched the autoplt off and increased our rate of descent. We missed our crossing restr by about 1/2 mi. The controller did not say anything and apparently there was not any traffic conflict. We feel this situation resulted from not setting up the FMS properly and monitoring it.

Title: A CPR JET FLC MISCALCULATES THEIR RATE OF DSCNT AND FAIL TO MAKE AN ALT XING RESTR 60 MI E OF SNA, CA.
Narrative: ON ARR RTE INTO SANTA ANA (SNA) WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR. WE SET UP THE FMS AND USED THE VNAV. DURING THE DSCNT THE CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO MAKE THE XING RESTR. WE SAID WE COULD MAKE IT. LATER IN THE DSCNT WE SAW THAT WE COULD NOT MEET THE XING RESTR USING THE FMS AND AUTOPLT AND SWITCHED THE AUTOPLT OFF AND INCREASED OUR RATE OF DSCNT.
