Narrative:
FMC was loaded for departure with runway 8R pomona six departure. During taxi for departure on runway 26L, the FMC runway was changed to runway 26L. The departure was made on runway 26L. The departure appeared normal until after passing pom VOR. At that point the aircraft display gave us a routing other than the pomona six (gorman transition), but on hindsight appeared to be the ontario two departure. By the time we caught the error and made an immediate turn back to the pomona six track, we estimate we could have been 4.5 mi off course. One note to add is we depart with our navigation screens set at the lowest range, 10 NM. After passing pomona VOR the only thing to see on the screen would be a straight line and no next fix. Had we had a higher display range selected, the error would have been evident sooner. It wasn't until we selected a higher range that we noticed the discrepancy.
