Approximately 5 mins after takeoff, flight attendant #2 called the flight attendant #1 to report smoke in the back part of the main cabin, at which time flight attendant #1 called the cockpit. The captain viewed the smoke and announced that we would be returning to ont. She instructed flight attendant #1 to begin emergency landing procedures (checklist), and we had 5 mins before landing. We landed without incident, and immediately deplaned for further inspection of aircraft. Passenger were calm, deplaned quickly, and remained in terminal for next available flight. It was determined that there was a hydraulic oil leak, and aircraft was taken OTS. The incident was reported to our report center by flight attendant #2 at approximately XB23, sep/xa/00.
