Narrative:
The history showed PIREP from sep/sun/00, as please check #1 main landing gear for cord showing. The sign off was ok for service by a mechanic in ZZZ. My first officer mentioned to me that the #1 main landing gear was really new. I went to look at myself and sure enough, no stickers on the tire but it was about a new a tire as they come. As a matter of fact all the tires were hardly worn at all. This puzzled me, so I called maintenance. They said there are no longer tire change logs in the logbook on the cardboard dividers and if a change is done it is made as a regular entry. I question why a crew would write up a new tire.
