Narrative:
I went to change a checklist to correct a discrepancy of incorrect checklist on aircraft. The correct checklist was the same one already on the aircraft. I checked effectivity per the ipc and it was correct and the 'TR' did not refer to an eco. Since our flight crew are not familiar with all the air carrier Y configns; I thought the discrepancy was erroneous and signed it off as 'correct part wording and all.' there is an eco that changes a part number to a different part number which changes the wording on the list. The eco was cancelled. The part I get from stock was mislabeled. The part on the aircraft did have the wrong wording. Management has been made aware of the mislabeled parts. With the parts mislabeled and the eco being cancelled; I had no way to know it was the wrong wording until tech services informed of the cancelled eco the next day when it repeated and sent us more information.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757 TECHNICIAN RPTS ASSIGNMENT TO REPLACE AN INCORRECT CHKLIST. REPLACEMENT WAS IDENTICAL TO INSTALLED CHKLIST. ALL DOCUMENTATION SHOWS CORRECT CHKLIST.
Narrative: I WENT TO CHANGE A CHKLIST TO CORRECT A DISCREPANCY OF INCORRECT CHKLIST ON ACFT. THE CORRECT CHKLIST WAS THE SAME ONE ALREADY ON THE ACFT. I CHKED EFFECTIVITY PER THE IPC AND IT WAS CORRECT AND THE 'TR' DID NOT REFER TO AN ECO. SINCE OUR FLT CREW ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ALL THE ACR Y CONFIGNS; I THOUGHT THE DISCREPANCY WAS ERRONEOUS AND SIGNED IT OFF AS 'CORRECT PART WORDING AND ALL.' THERE IS AN ECO THAT CHANGES A PART NUMBER TO A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER WHICH CHANGES THE WORDING ON THE LIST. THE ECO WAS CANCELLED. THE PART I GET FROM STOCK WAS MISLABELED. THE PART ON THE ACFT DID HAVE THE WRONG WORDING. MGMNT HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE MISLABELED PARTS. WITH THE PARTS MISLABELED AND THE ECO BEING CANCELLED; I HAD NO WAY TO KNOW IT WAS THE WRONG WORDING UNTIL TECH SVCS INFORMED OF THE CANCELLED ECO THE NEXT DAY WHEN IT REPEATED AND SENT US MORE INFO.
