Narrative:
I was cleared to take off on runway 9R. The thresholds for runways 9R and 5R are in the same spot. As the markings are somewhat faded; I unintentionally lined up on runway 5R. Tower immediately asked me to stop upon my starting the takeoff run and directed me to the correct runway. Given the fact that runways 9R and 5R have a common threshold; and the similarity of the markings for numbers '9' and '5;' under certain lighting conditions and for somebody new to this airport; it is very easy to line-up on the wrong runway. Runway markings must be improved and better signage put in place.
