Narrative:
We were operating as air carrier flight abcd pbi to dfw, and were talking to ZTL on frequency 126.42. At FL330, 104 DME south of the spa VOR, I was the PF and atl asked us to turn 15 degrees to the right for traffic. This I did, and shortly thereafter, a yellow RA symbol appeared in the upper right portion of the TCASII (approximately 6 mi range). TCASII then went red and ordered a descent, which I promptly began, disconnecting the autoplt to do so. At approximately FL328, target was acquired visually off the left wingtip (approximately 5 mi, distance using TCASII). I climbed back to FL330 and re-engaged the autoplt. ATC was immediately notified of our actions. He acknowledged us and queried the other aircraft why they had not begun a turn as requested immediately. TCASII is a very good tool as we did not visually acquire the target right away at our same altitude. The captain saw him prior to me as the windscreen post was in my way and I didn't see him until he moved past us laterally.

Narrative: WE WERE OPERATING AS ACR FLT ABCD PBI TO DFW, AND WERE TALKING TO ZTL ON FREQ 126.42. AT FL330, 104 DME S OF THE SPA VOR, I WAS THE PF AND ATL ASKED US TO TURN 15 DEGS TO THE R FOR TFC. AT APPROX FL328, TARGET WAS ACQUIRED VISUALLY OFF THE L WINGTIP (APPROX 5 MI, DISTANCE USING TCASII). I CLBED BACK TO FL330 AND RE-ENGAGED THE AUTOPLT. ATC WAS IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED OF OUR ACTIONS. HE ACKNOWLEDGED US AND QUERIED THE OTHER ACFT WHY THEY HAD NOT BEGUN A TURN AS REQUESTED IMMEDIATELY. TCASII IS A VERY GOOD TOOL AS WE DID NOT VISUALLY ACQUIRE THE TARGET RIGHT AWAY AT OUR SAME ALT.
