Narrative:

Working as a maintenance controller, I was notified by the flight data recorder shop that aircraft xyz was missing spoiler position data from the flight data recorder read. I notified the mechanics in ZZZ (avionics) of the situation, and added that we needed to apply on MEL for flight data recorder non-mandatory parameters on the through-flight. Meanwhile, I had several other calls and forgot about applying the MEL (the mechanics in ZZZ never called back), the aircraft was off the gate and en route to a non-maintenance station by the time I realized my error. The MEL was later applied.
