Narrative:
Smoke in cabin. On takeoff from lga a pungent odor began coming out of the air conditioning system. Shortly after, flight attendant #1 called to inform us the cabin was filling with blue smoke. We opened the cockpit door and verified the smoke. We leveled off at 9000 ft and declared an emergency. We made an uneventful landing at ewr. We taxied to the gate and deplaned via the jet bridge. There were no reported injuries, illness, or passenger discomfort. Points of interest and a few lessons learned during this event. We were cleared for visual runway 22L at ewr. The tower had turned the lights up on runway 22R and down on runway 22L. The localizer frequency was tuned in for runway 22L. The captain inadvertently lined up on runway 22R, because the lights were up and it was just after sunrise. He says he focused in on the lights of the runway. The WX was clear. The copilot was running the before landing checklists and getting the speeds. When I looked up at 1000 ft, he was lined up on a runway. The approach was stable, nothing seemed wrong. Then the tower informed us we were lined up on the wrong runway. The captain did a great side step and we landed without incident.
