Narrative:

Event took place at gate at dia. 3 off-line pilots requested jump seat privileges. My understanding of our new contract was that we were now allowed more than 2 jump seat riders as long as there were empty seats in the back, so I allowed all 3 to board the aircraft. I was later advised by the B727 fleet captain that the den gate agent had reported to him that I had boarded 3 off-line pilots vice an authority/authorized 2. After conferring with the fleet captain, I was advised that the new contract still only allowed 2 off-line pilots -- any other jump seat riders would have to be company pilots not off-line. Obviously, I misinterped the new procedure.
