Narrative:
While flying a cessna, I departed chd direct firebird lake at 2800 ft MSL (held over firebird lake). I contacted phx approach, requesting transition northbound to deer valley. Phx approach replied, 'climb and maintain 4000 ft and squawk XXXX.' I climbed to 4000 ft MSL and proceeded nwbound to ahwatukee golf course. Approximately 30 seconds later, phx approach requested a right 180 degree turn direct to firebird lake, 'then cleared through class B airspace via the west transition.' phx approach advised me that I was in class B airspace before being cleared into it. I am unsure if I broke their airspace when en route nwbound or during the right 180 degree turn. Note: I was clear of class B airspace until I received the clearance 'climb and maintain 4000 ft' and then given the right 180 degree turn.

Title: PVT PLT CONFUSES AN ALT ASSIGNMENT, PRIOR TO ENTERING PHX CLASS B, AS A CLRNC INTO THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. TRACON PROVIDES VECTORS AWAY AND SUBSEQUENTLY CLRNC THROUGH CLASS B ON A DESIGNATED VFR RTE.
Narrative: WHILE FLYING A CESSNA, I DEPARTED CHD DIRECT FIREBIRD LAKE AT 2800 FT MSL (HELD OVER FIREBIRD LAKE). I CONTACTED PHX APCH, REQUESTING TRANSITION NBOUND TO DEER VALLEY. PHX APCH REPLIED, 'CLB AND MAINTAIN 4000 FT AND SQUAWK XXXX.' I CLBED TO 4000 FT MSL AND PROCEEDED NWBOUND TO AHWATUKEE GOLF COURSE. APPROX 30 SECONDS LATER, PHX APCH REQUESTED A R 180 DEG TURN DIRECT TO FIREBIRD LAKE, 'THEN CLRED THROUGH CLASS B AIRSPACE VIA THE W TRANSITION.' PHX APCH ADVISED ME THAT I WAS IN CLASS B AIRSPACE BEFORE BEING CLRED INTO IT. I AM UNSURE IF I BROKE THEIR AIRSPACE WHEN ENRTE NWBOUND OR DURING THE R 180 DEG TURN. NOTE: I WAS CLR OF CLASS B AIRSPACE UNTIL I RECEIVED THE CLRNC 'CLB AND MAINTAIN 4000 FT' AND THEN GIVEN THE R 180 DEG TURN.
