Narrative:
Approach control requested that I hold 150 KIAS to the OM. I held 150 KIAS. When I started to receive the audible tone for the OM, I began to reduce power to slow to my gear speed of 128 KIAS. Approach called to hold 150 KIAS. I sped back up. My previous instruction was to the marker. Something was not right. I spoke to TRACON on the ground and told them I could not hold 150 KIAS that long. I should have informed them sooner that I needed a slower speed. The controller was trying to expedite traffic and was simply assigning speeds that were too high.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PA31 PLT WAS ASSIGNED 150 KTS TO THE OM AT DEN RWY 35L.
Narrative: APCH CTL REQUESTED THAT I HOLD 150 KIAS TO THE OM. I HELD 150 KIAS. WHEN I STARTED TO RECEIVE THE AUDIBLE TONE FOR THE OM, I BEGAN TO REDUCE PWR TO SLOW TO MY GEAR SPD OF 128 KIAS. APCH CALLED TO HOLD 150 KIAS. I SPED BACK UP. MY PREVIOUS INSTRUCTION WAS TO THE MARKER. SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT. I SPOKE TO TRACON ON THE GND AND TOLD THEM I COULD NOT HOLD 150 KIAS THAT LONG. I SHOULD HAVE INFORMED THEM SOONER THAT I NEEDED A SLOWER SPD. THE CTLR WAS TRYING TO EXPEDITE TFC AND WAS SIMPLY ASSIGNING SPDS THAT WERE TOO HIGH.
