Narrative:
We were flying the civet arrival to lax runway 25L lax 38I lax DME from lax. Just inside bremr descending at 500-1000 FPM, we received a TA at 11500 ft, followed by an RA 'reduce descent.' I leveled off at 10800 ft. We then received a 'monitor vertical speed' RA. At the same time the other aircraft coming at us from right to left went under the nose showing -200 ft separation. We told lax approach control we had an RA. Their response was they showed the aircraft at 4500 ft, then 10500 ft after we crossed paths. We acquired the other aircraft visually at 1 mi. It appeared to be a large high wing cessna at 10500 ft. If we did not have the TCASII, we would have been close indeed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BTWN A DC10 DSNDING ON ARR THROUGH 10500 FT IN CLASS B AIRSPACE AND A LARGE SINGLE ENG CESSNA XING THROUGH THE DC10'S FLT PATH. APCH CTLR OBSERVED A TARGET AT 4500 FT AND SUBSEQUENTLY AFTER PASSING AT 10500 FT. TCASII ALERTED DC10 CREW TO CESSNA'S PRESENCE.
