Narrative:
I was flying. We were cleared to 5000 ft (initial). I entered the clouds at 3500 ft and found it to be very choppy. As I noticed a large airspeed increase, I did not immediately notice that our climb increased. As I began to level off, we continued through 5000 ft to around 5650 ft. I immediately took corrective action and returned to 5000 ft. We informed the controller that we had entered an updraft. TCASII alerted once due to the large number of aircraft and the increased rate of climb.
