Narrative:
I was on the ground, lanai. When I called ZHN (on 119.3) to pick up my clearance to mkk, I was also listening on 122.9 CTAF for inbound traffic. I was given the standard clearance and told there would be a delay for inbound traffic and was clear for departure after the inbound low approach. On the readback, instead of reading back my void clearance time, I read back that I was cleared for departure after the low approach. He responded with 'readback correct,' I taxied out and departed runway 21 to join up with V7 en route to mkk. I called center after departure, reported leaving 1700 ft and told center I had the traffic that was on missed approach. He replied back, 'you up already? You were on a clearance hold. Maintain VFR,' and he handed me off to another controller. Remainder of flight to mkk was uneventful. If my understanding and readback of the clearance was incorrect, the controller should have questioned the readback.

Title: CLRNC MISCOMMUNICATED FOR A DEP FROM LHY, HI. ACFT IS NOW AIRBORNE WHEN IT WAS ON AN ATC HOLD.
Narrative: I WAS ON THE GND, LANAI. WHEN I CALLED ZHN (ON 119.3) TO PICK UP MY CLRNC TO MKK, I WAS ALSO LISTENING ON 122.9 CTAF FOR INBOUND TFC. I WAS GIVEN THE STANDARD CLRNC AND TOLD THERE WOULD BE A DELAY FOR INBOUND TFC AND WAS CLR FOR DEP AFTER THE INBOUND LOW APCH. ON THE READBACK, INSTEAD OF READING BACK MY VOID CLRNC TIME, I READ BACK THAT I WAS CLRED FOR DEP AFTER THE LOW APCH. HE RESPONDED WITH 'READBACK CORRECT,' I TAXIED OUT AND DEPARTED RWY 21 TO JOIN UP WITH V7 ENRTE TO MKK. I CALLED CTR AFTER DEP, RPTED LEAVING 1700 FT AND TOLD CTR I HAD THE TFC THAT WAS ON MISSED APCH. HE REPLIED BACK, 'YOU UP ALREADY? YOU WERE ON A CLRNC HOLD. MAINTAIN VFR,' AND HE HANDED ME OFF TO ANOTHER CTLR. REMAINDER OF FLT TO MKK WAS UNEVENTFUL. IF MY UNDERSTANDING AND READBACK OF THE CLRNC WAS INCORRECT, THE CTLR SHOULD HAVE QUESTIONED THE READBACK.
