Narrative:

We were cleared for a visual approach runway 4R ord. We were high and were concerned about getting down to the GS. The GS was found to be inoperative but was not notamed or on ATIS as being inoperative. We had been cleared for the visual and to contact ord tower at the marker. After landing we were advised we were on approach frequency. I don't know if we had switched to tower for landing clearance and switched back or never actually switched to tower frequency. We called the tower supervisor whose main concern was our exit onto taxiway Q. He said there were no problems for them on control or clrncs.
