Narrative:
After landing on runway 33 in bur, we were cleared to cross runway 26 and taxi to gate xa. As I was taxiing to the gate, I steered slightly to the right to ensure our left wingtip was clear of the tail of an aircraft parked at xb. As we parked, tower informed us to give them a call. The tower person informed me that as I steered to the right to avoid the aircraft at xb, the right wing of our aircraft extended into the non movement area that borders the ramp and runway 15/33. Supplemental information from acn 494796: the situation involved no aircraft arriving or departing runway 33. In hindsight, I realize that the bravo gates at bur present a difficult and potentially dangerous situation, especially if unfamiliar crews are taxiing. It is marked on our commercial chart pages, but I firmly believe that more effective procedures should be established between the bur tower and aircraft parking and departing from the bravo gates.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A B737-500 TAXIIED WIDE TO AVOID ANOTHER ACFT IN THE ADJACENT GATE TO THE ONE IN WHICH HE WAS GOING TO PARK, RESULTING IN HIS WING PROTRUDING OVER THE NON-MOVEMENT AREA AND EDGE OF ACTIVE RWY.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 33 IN BUR, WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS RWY 26 AND TAXI TO GATE XA. AS I WAS TAXIING TO THE GATE, I STEERED SLIGHTLY TO THE R TO ENSURE OUR L WINGTIP WAS CLR OF THE TAIL OF AN ACFT PARKED AT XB. AS WE PARKED, TWR INFORMED US TO GIVE THEM A CALL. THE TWR PERSON INFORMED ME THAT AS I STEERED TO THE R TO AVOID THE ACFT AT XB, THE R WING OF OUR ACFT EXTENDED INTO THE NON MOVEMENT AREA THAT BORDERS THE RAMP AND RWY 15/33. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 494796: THE SIT INVOLVED NO ACFT ARRIVING OR DEPARTING RWY 33. IN HINDSIGHT, I REALIZE THAT THE BRAVO GATES AT BUR PRESENT A DIFFICULT AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SIT, ESPECIALLY IF UNFAMILIAR CREWS ARE TAXIING. IT IS MARKED ON OUR COMMERCIAL CHART PAGES, BUT I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT MORE EFFECTIVE PROCS SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED BTWN THE BUR TWR AND ACFT PARKING AND DEPARTING FROM THE BRAVO GATES.
