Narrative:
Departed bgi not in compliance with MEL 29-11. Asked mechanic if he had checked hydraulic system per MEL and he said that he had. I saw a sign off for compliance and was distraction by a problem in the cabin with the #1 flight attendant. We took a 5 min delay. En route when writing another item, I saw that the sign off of the hydraulic system quantity was from mia the previous day, not from bgi that morning.
