Narrative:
Barometer was set at field barometric pressure and not switched to 29.92 out of FL180, resulting in incorrect transponder readout. Center asked me if I needed to reset, and I did. Problem solved. There was no separation problem. The problem was caused by not completing the checklist for climb out. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the aircraft in question was a cessna citation jet C525, being flown singularly by the reporter, who holds a C525S type rating.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C525 PLT NEGLECTED TO RESET ALTIMETER CLBING THROUGH FL180.
Narrative: BAROMETER WAS SET AT FIELD BAROMETRIC PRESSURE AND NOT SWITCHED TO 29.92 OUT OF FL180, RESULTING IN INCORRECT XPONDER READOUT. CTR ASKED ME IF I NEEDED TO RESET, AND I DID. PROB SOLVED. THERE WAS NO SEPARATION PROB. THE PROB WAS CAUSED BY NOT COMPLETING THE CHKLIST FOR CLBOUT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE ACFT IN QUESTION WAS A CESSNA CITATION JET C525, BEING FLOWN SINGULARLY BY THE RPTR, WHO HOLDS A C525S TYPE RATING.
