Narrative:
Air carrier Y B737-300 taxied onto runway 5R at taxiway D in pvd during the takeoff roll of our aircraft on runway 5R in pvd. WX was 2400 ft RVR. Air carrier X captain saw the B737 on the runway and aborted the takeoff at 75 KIAS. B737 stopped about 1/3 of the width of runway 5R. We diverted from the runway centerline to the right (see diagram on reverse side). Supplemental information from acn 497141: I aborted the takeoff with the aircraft slowing to a speed as to be able to maneuver around the B737 as his nose was about in the middle of the runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DURING AN RVR 2400 FT TKOF ON RWY 5 AN A319 PIC ABORTS WHEN NOTING AN ACR B737 THAT HAD NOSED 50 FT INTO THE ACTIVE RWY AT PVD, RI.
Narrative: ACR Y B737-300 TAXIED ONTO RWY 5R AT TXWY D IN PVD DURING THE TKOF ROLL OF OUR ACFT ON RWY 5R IN PVD. WX WAS 2400 FT RVR. ACR X CAPT SAW THE B737 ON THE RWY AND ABORTED THE TKOF AT 75 KIAS. B737 STOPPED ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WIDTH OF RWY 5R. WE DIVERTED FROM THE RWY CTRLINE TO THE R (SEE DIAGRAM ON REVERSE SIDE). SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 497141: I ABORTED THE TKOF WITH THE ACFT SLOWING TO A SPD AS TO BE ABLE TO MANEUVER AROUND THE B737 AS HIS NOSE WAS ABOUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RWY.
