Narrative:
We as crews continue to see 200/300/500 aircraft that have main landing gear indication mirrors and glass above mirror as well as nose gear indicator glasses that have not been tended on a weekly basis (a check or service check) by maintenance out of ZZZ, abc, XXX and xyz and zxy. This takes critical time away from crew flight safety duties and checks to clean the mirrors and glasses. This is a disservice to not only this airline, but also the crews in not only safety related issues, but also delays and potential for law suit and damaging news media reports if one of our crews has to prepare the cabin in the event that the back-up gear indicators cannot be viewed when a nose or main landing gear light fails.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-200, 300, 500, 700 CAPT RPTS CLEANING AND ADJUSTMENTS OF NOSE AND MAIN LNDG GEAR VIEW PORTS ARE NOT BEING DONE REGULARLY AT SEVERAL MAINT STATIONS.
Narrative: WE AS CREWS CONTINUE TO SEE 200/300/500 ACFT THAT HAVE MAIN LNDG GEAR INDICATION MIRRORS AND GLASS ABOVE MIRROR AS WELL AS NOSE GEAR INDICATOR GLASSES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TENDED ON A WKLY BASIS (A CHK OR SVC CHK) BY MAINT OUT OF ZZZ, ABC, XXX AND XYZ AND ZXY. THIS TAKES CRITICAL TIME AWAY FROM CREW FLT SAFETY DUTIES AND CHKS TO CLEAN THE MIRRORS AND GLASSES. THIS IS A DISSERVICE TO NOT ONLY THIS AIRLINE, BUT ALSO THE CREWS IN NOT ONLY SAFETY RELATED ISSUES, BUT ALSO DELAYS AND POTENTIAL FOR LAW SUIT AND DAMAGING NEWS MEDIA RPTS IF ONE OF OUR CREWS HAS TO PREPARE THE CABIN IN THE EVENT THAT THE BACK-UP GEAR INDICATORS CANNOT BE VIEWED WHEN A NOSE OR MAIN LNDG GEAR LIGHT FAILS.
