Narrative:

While holding in position for takeoff, we were cleared for takeoff (runway 16R). We acknowledged takeoff clearance and began to roll. Around 80 KTS, we heard tower repeat our takeoff clearance. I acknowledged a second time. It was my first officer's takeoff, and immediately thereafter my first officer acknowledged the clearance. Once airborne, tower said something to the effect of 'air carrier xyz flight abc we have never received your acknowledgement of takeoff clearance, if you hear this contact departure.' an air carrier XXX pilot then transmitted over tower frequency that he heard 'air carrier xyz, abc acknowledge the takeoff clearance 3 times.' the point of this report is to add this incident to your database on possible radio blind spots from 737-700 aircraft. Unlike the situation addressed last yr in the pilot reading file book, we could always hear the tower. Obviously, air carrier XXX flight xx could hear our xmissions on runway 16R, but the tower could not. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated unlike the problems described in the flight crew reading file on B737-700 #1 VHF communication, we could always hear the tower. The reporter said the other aircraft including air carrier XXX could hear the xmissions and the tower response.

Title: A B737-700 IN POS AND HOLDING COULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH SLC TWR WITH #1 VHF COM, BUT ADJACENT ACFT ON GND COULD HEAR AND XMIT TO THE B737-700.

Narrative: WHILE HOLDING IN POS FOR TKOF, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF (RWY 16R). WE ACKNOWLEDGED TKOF CLRNC AND BEGAN TO ROLL. AROUND 80 KTS, WE HEARD TWR REPEAT OUR TKOF CLRNC. I ACKNOWLEDGED A SECOND TIME. IT WAS MY FO'S TKOF, AND IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER MY FO ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC. ONCE AIRBORNE, TWR SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF 'ACR XYZ FLT ABC WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED YOUR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TKOF CLRNC, IF YOU HEAR THIS CONTACT DEP.' AN ACR XXX PLT THEN XMITTED OVER TWR FREQ THAT HE HEARD 'ACR XYZ, ABC ACKNOWLEDGE THE TKOF CLRNC 3 TIMES.' THE POINT OF THIS RPT IS TO ADD THIS INCIDENT TO YOUR DATABASE ON POSSIBLE RADIO BLIND SPOTS FROM 737-700 ACFT. UNLIKE THE SIT ADDRESSED LAST YR IN THE PLT READING FILE BOOK, WE COULD ALWAYS HEAR THE TWR. OBVIOUSLY, ACR XXX FLT XX COULD HEAR OUR XMISSIONS ON RWY 16R, BUT THE TWR COULD NOT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED UNLIKE THE PROBS DESCRIBED IN THE FLC READING FILE ON B737-700 #1 VHF COM, WE COULD ALWAYS HEAR THE TWR. THE RPTR SAID THE OTHER ACFT INCLUDING ACR XXX COULD HEAR THE XMISSIONS AND THE TWR RESPONSE.
