Narrative:
Late night flight, ZJX offered and we accepted a radar vector direct mia. Vector inadvertently took us more than 50 NM from shore. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he did not realize his error until he was already out beyond the overwater limit. Some of his air carrier flight of B727's were equipped with overwater equipment in the past, but not anymore. Therefore, he stated that he will be more careful in the future.
