Narrative:
Departed anc airport, altimeter was low 28.64. Climbing through FL180, I set and called '92 on the left,' first officer called '92 on the right.' after being level in cruise for 5 mins, ATC asked us to rechk altimeter. He was showing us 800-900 ft high. Upon checking our altimeter setting, we realized we had reset 28.92 instead of 29.92 out of FL180. We reset our altimeter, descended to our assigned altitude of FL210, and proceeded to our destination. At no time was there a loss of separation with other aircraft, and ATC made no further mention of the situation.

Title: FLC OF A DEHAVILLAND DASH 8 INADVERTENTLY MISSET THE ALTIMETER WHEN CLBING THROUGH FL180 RESULTING IN LEVELING OFF 900 FT HIGH. MISTAKE WAS SUSPECTED BY THE ARTCC CTLR WHO QUESTIONED THEIR ALTIMETER SETTING.
Narrative: DEPARTED ANC ARPT, ALTIMETER WAS LOW 28.64. CLBING THROUGH FL180, I SET AND CALLED '92 ON THE L,' FO CALLED '92 ON THE R.' AFTER BEING LEVEL IN CRUISE FOR 5 MINS, ATC ASKED US TO RECHK ALTIMETER. HE WAS SHOWING US 800-900 FT HIGH. UPON CHKING OUR ALTIMETER SETTING, WE REALIZED WE HAD RESET 28.92 INSTEAD OF 29.92 OUT OF FL180. WE RESET OUR ALTIMETER, DSNDED TO OUR ASSIGNED ALT OF FL210, AND PROCEEDED TO OUR DEST.
