Narrative:

Initial climb clearance to 14000 ft MSL was given by first departure controller while climbing through 12500 ft to 14000 ft. The second departure controller told us that we were given 12000 ft as an initial altitude. We descended to 12000 ft and stayed there until leaving NAS airspace. Many times at nassau local controller pronunciations are difficult to understand at best, and mistakes often occur due to this. My crew put it into the altitude alerter (14000 ft) and I confirmed this initially. My guess is that NAS departure thought they said 12000 ft when in fact they said 14000 ft.
