Narrative:
The previous crew entered a malfunctioning coffee maker into the aircraft logbook and notified maintenance. Maintenance did not fix the coffee maker, or document it as a deferred maintenance item. I inadvertently flew 1 leg (rdu-tpa) with this open maintenance item. I was unaware of my oversight until jan/xa/01 when it was brought to my attention by management. A more timely response by maintenance to known write-ups, and a more thorough review of the aircraft logbook would have avoided this situation. The event was discovered by a ramp check by the FAA on dec/xa/00.
