Narrative:
Ground controller gave instructions to taxi on parallel taxiway to runway. At end of taxiway, called tower for position report and request for takeoff. Tower responded with instructions to expedite taxi through what appeared to be a displaced threshold to the parallel runway, as I had already taxied beyond a hold short line. Taxi instruction signs as well as the commercial airport diagram did not clearly show if the runway end was at first intersection or beyond what appeared to be a displaced threshold. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: pilot was cleared to runway 23L on taxiway a. The pilot had his commercial airport plate page diagram out for reference. He was taxiing slowly and cautiously because he was at a large air carrier airport, and he had only been here once before. He did not detect the hold short markings just past taxiway A8 on taxiway a. He thought that this was further from the runway end than he expected.

Title: PA28 PLT HAD RWY INCURSION AT RWY 23L ON TXWY A AT TYS.
Narrative: GND CTLR GAVE INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI ON PARALLEL TXWY TO RWY. AT END OF TXWY, CALLED TWR FOR POS RPT AND REQUEST FOR TKOF. TWR RESPONDED WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO EXPEDITE TAXI THROUGH WHAT APPEARED TO BE A DISPLACED THRESHOLD TO THE PARALLEL RWY, AS I HAD ALREADY TAXIED BEYOND A HOLD SHORT LINE. TAXI INSTRUCTION SIGNS AS WELL AS THE COMMERCIAL ARPT DIAGRAM DID NOT CLRLY SHOW IF THE RWY END WAS AT FIRST INTXN OR BEYOND WHAT APPEARED TO BE A DISPLACED THRESHOLD. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: PLT WAS CLRED TO RWY 23L ON TXWY A. THE PLT HAD HIS COMMERCIAL ARPT PLATE PAGE DIAGRAM OUT FOR REF. HE WAS TAXIING SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY BECAUSE HE WAS AT A LARGE ACR ARPT, AND HE HAD ONLY BEEN HERE ONCE BEFORE. HE DID NOT DETECT THE HOLD SHORT MARKINGS JUST PAST TXWY A8 ON TXWY A. HE THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS FURTHER FROM THE RWY END THAN HE EXPECTED.
