Narrative:
While in cruise flight and giving a pilot training who had not flown in 10 yrs, we experienced a complete dual navigation/communication failure in marginal flight conditions. Broadcasted on the TRACON frequency in the blind of our condition, squawked 1200 and continued on to destination. The aft owner had recently updated his radios. I am assuming this update was the problem. Continued the flight VFR.
