Narrative:
Was given direct iad. Captain programming FMC #2, choices presented. Captain enters top (first) iad and enters it, executes it without checking frequency or latitude/longitude. Aircraft begins turn to wrong ihd and controller queries. Captain and I note mileage and course on legs page then he chooses correct ihd. It should be noted he stated this was out of habit and I am much newer to aircraft. I tend to be more deliberate than most when my duties include programming the FMC.
