Narrative:
Flight originated in cmh with ACARS inoperative. Clearance received on VHF was cleared as filed. Crew failed to note that the typical 'STAR' to phl, the bunts 1, was replaced with the bojid 1 STAR. Note: both stars are about identical between jst and bunts intersection. Prior to crossing bunts, an ATC assigned altitude of 8000 ft, we were cleared to 6000 ft. Passing bunts, we steered heading 105 degrees, expecting a vector. Just prior to bojid (which we coincidentally shadowed) the captain asked first officer to request a lower altitude. Approach controller's response was 'aren't you flying the bojid?' first officer responded we were flying the bunts STAR. Approach controller then gave us a lower and vector. No conflicts, remainder of flight uneventful. Suggestion: all crews should ask for a 'full readout' whenever ACARS has problems.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A319 CREW ACCEPTED 'CLRED AS FILED,' UNAWARE THE STAR HAD BEEN REVISED.
Narrative: FLT ORIGINATED IN CMH WITH ACARS INOP. CLRNC RECEIVED ON VHF WAS CLRED AS FILED. CREW FAILED TO NOTE THAT THE TYPICAL 'STAR' TO PHL, THE BUNTS 1, WAS REPLACED WITH THE BOJID 1 STAR. NOTE: BOTH STARS ARE ABOUT IDENTICAL BTWN JST AND BUNTS INTXN. PRIOR TO XING BUNTS, AN ATC ASSIGNED ALT OF 8000 FT, WE WERE CLRED TO 6000 FT. PASSING BUNTS, WE STEERED HDG 105 DEGS, EXPECTING A VECTOR. JUST PRIOR TO BOJID (WHICH WE COINCIDENTALLY SHADOWED) THE CAPT ASKED FO TO REQUEST A LOWER ALT. APCH CTLR'S RESPONSE WAS 'AREN'T YOU FLYING THE BOJID?' FO RESPONDED WE WERE FLYING THE BUNTS STAR. APCH CTLR THEN GAVE US A LOWER AND VECTOR. NO CONFLICTS, REMAINDER OF FLT UNEVENTFUL. SUGGESTION: ALL CREWS SHOULD ASK FOR A 'FULL READOUT' WHENEVER ACARS HAS PROBS.
