Narrative:
We called for push off of gate and were told to hold. We did so. Ground then cleared us to push and hold short of taxiway north. We told the ground crew to do so. Then as we were about to push, a B757 was pushed directly behind our aircraft. We had to stop our push even though ground was in control. We then were admonished by ground for not pushing. We told him there was a B757 in our way, and he told us in an irritated voice that there was plenty of room. We began our push again telling our push crew to hold short of taxiway north. Ground then called us and told us to stop our push immediately. We told our ground crew to do so and they did. ATC then asked for the captain's name and told us that it was a pilot deviation. We asked our ground crew to verify our position and were told again that we were not pushed onto taxiway north. I could not see the tail of my aircraft but it did look like we were not on taxiway north. I feel that this controller was in error and was not handling the situation very professionally.

Title: CAPT OF A B737 DISPUTES ALLEGATION BY ATCT GND CTLR THAT HE WAS PUSHED BACK INTO TXWY INSTRUCTED TO WHICH TO REMAINED CLR.
Narrative: WE CALLED FOR PUSH OFF OF GATE AND WERE TOLD TO HOLD. WE DID SO. GND THEN CLRED US TO PUSH AND HOLD SHORT OF TXWY N. WE TOLD THE GND CREW TO DO SO. THEN AS WE WERE ABOUT TO PUSH, A B757 WAS PUSHED DIRECTLY BEHIND OUR ACFT. WE HAD TO STOP OUR PUSH EVEN THOUGH GND WAS IN CTL. WE THEN WERE ADMONISHED BY GND FOR NOT PUSHING. WE TOLD HIM THERE WAS A B757 IN OUR WAY, AND HE TOLD US IN AN IRRITATED VOICE THAT THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM. WE BEGAN OUR PUSH AGAIN TELLING OUR PUSH CREW TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY N. GND THEN CALLED US AND TOLD US TO STOP OUR PUSH IMMEDIATELY. WE TOLD OUR GND CREW TO DO SO AND THEY DID. ATC THEN ASKED FOR THE CAPT'S NAME AND TOLD US THAT IT WAS A PLTDEV. WE ASKED OUR GND CREW TO VERIFY OUR POS AND WERE TOLD AGAIN THAT WE WERE NOT PUSHED ONTO TXWY N. I COULD NOT SEE THE TAIL OF MY ACFT BUT IT DID LOOK LIKE WE WERE NOT ON TXWY N. I FEEL THAT THIS CTLR WAS IN ERROR AND WAS NOT HANDLING THE SIT VERY PROFESSIONALLY.
